Computer-Guided Dental Implant Surgery
At the NY Center for Esthetic and Laser Dentistry in Manhattan, we can perform all stages of your dental implant surgery using the latest dental techniques and technology. With our advanced imaging system, we can view precise details of your smile to carefully plan your surgery. We can then perform a computer-guided procedure for precise results and reduced discomfort. For those who qualify, we also offer Teeth-in-an-Hour™, which enables patients to receive a fixed denture immediately after surgery. Dr. David J. Poiman has a meticulous eye for detail and applies a personalized approach to all treatments.
Dr. Poiman dedicates himself to continuing education in the field of dentistry, achieving more than 500 hours of training each year.
A Step-by-Step Guide to Dental Implant Surgery
Detailed treatment planning is essential for truly superior care. During your consultation, Dr. Poiman will closely examine your smile using our innovative CDR (Computed Dental Radiography) imaging system. This method produces the sharpest and most detailed scans, which can be used to determine the areas of your jawbone that will provide sufficient support for implants. Using advanced technology, Dr. Poiman will then create a computer-guided surgical plan, which can limit the impact on surrounding healthy tissue.
Before your surgery, Dr. Poiman will numb your gums and jawbone with local anesthesia. He can also provide deeper sedation, especially if you are going to receive multiple dental implants. Your doctor will then make a small incision in your gums and create space for your dental implant. After embedding the implant into your jawbone, Dr. Poiman will close the incision and seal the soft tissue around the post.
If you are receiving traditional implants, we will provide you with a temporary removable restoration to wear over the next four to six months. During this period, your jawbone and gums will begin to heal. The implants will fuse with your jawbone, becoming a permanent part of your smile.
After your recovery, you will return to our office to undergo the final surgical procedure involved in treatment. At this appointment, Dr. Poiman will remove a small amount of soft tissue to expose the tops of the implants. He will then place abutment pieces, which will connect your dental implant to your custom-made crown, bridge, or denture.
For patients who need to replace a full dental arch, Dr. Poiman may recommend the restorative Teeth-in-an-Hour treatment. As with standard implant surgery, Dr. Poiman will use computer-guided techniques during this procedure to reduce discomfort and lower the risk of complications. However, instead of waiting several months to receive an implant-supported denture, Dr. Poiman can attach it on the same day as your implant procedure. The restoration will remain secure and stable during your approximate three-month healing process. Once you have made a full recovery, your doctor can replace it with a permanent and even more lifelike restoration.
